Diesel’s Digital –Camera Kiosks outside Dressing Rooms: Revolutionizing Shopping Experience

Last year’s annual Apparel and Retail Summit tackles about how business should handle the effect of economic meltdown and new technologies related to store operations such as inventory control. Businesses having been recovered last year’s recession are gearing up their stores and boutiques for shopper’s convenience.

Merchants, retailers are busy promoting their business with the help of technology. One of these is sending coupons to their client’s mobile phones and of course utilizing the power of social networking sites such as Facebook.  Even smartphones nowadays are changing the way people shops. Smartphone application such as RedLaser let a customer scan an item’s bar code while on isle of a shopping mall. This application will go well with the store’s inventory control.

Other high end stores located Time Square such as Disney Store uses an interactive display that indeed draws shoppers to come inside and check out the store. This type of technology is suited for brick-and-mortar shops.

One particular store feature that attracts my attention most was the Diesel’s store in Spain where digital-camera kiosks was placed outside the dressing rooms enabling shoppers took pictures with the outfit on and can be posted on Facebook where friends can see, rate and comment. I applaud Diesel’s marketing and advertising ingenuity. Any business can make a mark in the business world by simply utilizing social media sites.

An application such as Foursquare enables shoppers to “check in” once they arrive to a certain establishment. Other stores awards shoppers who has the most collected points. Each visit on the store warrants point. Checking in Starbucks allows this application and can be posted in Facebook. So the next times that you visit a posh boutique brag it over the net.

Another technology-driven feature that is current hot to stores likes Best Buy and Gap is giving shoppers an instant reward once their phone are detected in participating stores. Gap for example collaborates with Foursquare and detected shopper’s phone can automatically receive discount coupons in which the application sent to the shopper’s phone.

These applications are no doubt a big doubt a huge help to merchants and retailers. Plus with the help of social media marketing, selling one’s product or services is easier compared to the earlier years. Efficient inventory control , impressive boutique displays and applications that multiply advertising marketing efforts are collectively contributes to the success of any business even in the midst of economic crisis.
